Many adults today struggle with weight. Recent studies indicate that up to sixty percent of adults today in the United States are either overweight or obese. But we don’t need a government report to tell us we could lose a few pounds, right?
Many people know, at least one some level, that in order to lose weight, it helps to eat less, and exercise more. When you combine these two, you can easily lose weight.
Reducing the amount of calories that you eat seems simple enough, right? Less sugar, less fat, less trips to the ice cream shop that seem to pop up whenever you get the urge. Less fried foods.
Exercise is where many people get confused. Many people, especially women, that want to lose weight automatically assume that cardio is better. Many shun strength training for fear of building big, bulky muscles.
Nothing could be further from the truth. First of all, it is much harder for women to get big muscles than it is for men. We can thank mother nature for that.
The beauty of strength training is that it builds up lean muscle mass. And the more lean muscle mass you have, the higher your resting metabolism will be. With a high resting metabolism, you actually increase the amount of calories you burn, twenty four hours a day. It’s the calories you burn when you are not working out that make a big difference.
The best way to increase your lean muscle mass is to do strength training that targets large muscle groups. Also it helps to use light weights, with high repetitions.
A great way to do this is through body weight exercises. One of the best way to do this is through yoga. Other ways are push ups, sit ups and pull ups. You’ll be amazed how quickly doing these exercises will increase your metabolism.
The combination of a good diet, and a decent strength training habit will do wonders for your body shape. Your weight will drop off, and your self-esteem and self-confidence will soar.
